A bit of the Unexpected
July 8, 2008
I was introduced to Linden Lab’s Second Life by a fairly famous scaper, Duke Freedom. Anyone remember him? (He financed 2 years of his college education trading RS gold for real money until he was banned for, you guessed it, RWT). I didn’t get too far into the game though. The social aspects are what they are, but I enjoy leveling up and other aspects of RPGs more. Evidently they impressed another company far more though.
Google just launched it’s own MMOG. It is downloadable for free here. I just finished my download and am about to create an avatar.

Correction: SL is not a “game” in the ordinary sense, it’s more of a “virtual world”, which is uncomparable to ordinary MMORPG’s.
It seems as though SL is going downhill though, population has been diminishing or remaining the same for a long time as far as I’m aware and land prices in the “virtual world” have plummeted too (mostly because Linden Lab started dumping it for cheap themselves, apparently because they need more money).
Google’s world is buggy from what I hear the SL community say about it and supposively doesn’t offer anywhere near the freedom SL offers. I haven’t checked it out myself though.
I read you were doing fine with your blog (and moved), how many views etc – I see little/no reactions?
Byebye,
Duke Freedom

Duke! Thanks for stopping in. I agree and disagree there though. I call SL a game (MMOG) for lack of a better term, as I don’t think virtual world really fits either. I am sure that with all the changes in the gaming industry there will be a better term that comes into use in the very near future though.
Google’s world wasn’t buggy at all while I played it. Surprisingly, the controls were a bit hard to get used to though.
