89 Farming

February 22, 2009

I just hit 89 farming, and have been doing a lot of thinking a lot of thinking about the farming skill.  Mainly vacillating over profits or xp.  Profits being snapdragon farming and xp being torstol farming.  Torstol is well over double the xp, and that really ads up.  A farming run with Snapdragon averages out to 3983 xp a trip, while torstol gives 9079 a trip.

Torstol on the other hand loses money when made into Zammy Brews, so I came up with the plan to plant 4 torstols and 1 snapdragon in My Arm’s plot.  That way I break even and still maximize my xp.

I also took some advice form high level farmers and started planting my allotments again.  I have been ignorimg them to focus on trees and herbs alone, but they really are some serious xp.  Two allotments of watermelons gets me 2900 xp (including the 15 super compost I make every round).  This costs a bit though.  Seeds cost 1758 for 6, and I sell super composts.  15 of them get me 7665gp at today’s relatively stable prices.  I value the other watermelon at 91gp each so I am only losing about 6k per field that I farm, but still it is a loss.

I need to think about the path I will take in farming.  To date it has been a profit center.  Always focusing on the high income herbs.  If I am ever to get that farming cape though I need to buckle down and focus on xp.

ps anyone know if watering plants has any effect on the yields?  As in if I have a nasturitum protecting my watermelons, would watering them give me more melons when they grow to maturity?

Well goodluck with getting 99! And as for watering, it probably does help. I mean, it seems logical, but I don’t know for sure. Test it?

Thanks for the complement. I made the banner from a pic that a buddy of mine drew. You can check out more of his work at http://adamstemple.com/
