Seed prices?

March 1, 2009

torstol-graphAs an avid farmer, I am feeling the crunch of seed prices lately. It an easy jump to see the reason they are going up. The tool Leprechaun will now note your produce and grimy herbs for free at each plot, effectively eliminating bank stops for farming runs. This is an extra 10k xp per plot for high farmers, and at much cheaper prices and in less time than it takes to grow trees.

Watermelon seeds are rising like mad, and strawberries are in a close second. Surprisingly sweet corn hasn’t been affected at all, so there is still a pocket of profitability there. Grow sweet corn and sell the produce for cash. (6 seeds is 2868, and I average 50 sweetcorn per plot that sell instantly for 10900).

Herb seeds are on the rise as well, and you can see the demand from high level farmers, as Torstol seeds have risen over 145% in the past 30 days. Another interesting thing here is that Zammy Brews have followed the same demand curve. makes me wonder who is driving the demand for those as well.

Here are some numbers I was doing just as an FYI:

  • Torstol seed: 10,100
  • Average Yield: 7.3
  • Zammy brew: 1,151
  • Vial: 88
  • Jangerberry: 423
  • Cost per pot: 1,662
  • Loss per seed: 3,738

I plant 4 torstols and 1 snapdragon and come out ahead buying all vials and seconds. The occasional corn allotment is just a bonus.

Sweet Corn is an excellent choice for any home garden. Garden Harvest Supply offers potted plants ready for transplanting, http://www.‘moronic’gardenharvestsupply.com

spam site edited by the Pizzamancer. Seriously dude. This is a gaming blog, but I have got to know… how many potted sweetcorns are you selling?

Another way to make cash: FARM MARIGOLDS! You can buy marigold seeds at 72gp a pop, while each marigold (easily picked up while doing herb and allotment runs) is worth 3,115gp (yeah, thats a profit of like 3k each).
I also have a question: Do you use supercompost or regular compost on your allotments, and also do you pay the farmers to watch them?

Thanks for stopping by. Marigolds are great for even level 1 farmers.

I plant watermelons for the xp lately, and left nasturtiums growing in the flower patch, but you would actually be better off farming the marigolds. The payments cost 2500gp and you can sell the marigolds for just over 3k. The problem is having a constant supply of curry leaves for farmer payments.

I super compost everything. It increases the yields, and I have it in overflowing quantities because I make it every time I stop at a farming patch. At 127xp a bin, that is an extra 508xp each farming run. Not too shabby. Doing 5 rounds a day that is a free orange tree.
