Nomad…

Do not touch As most of the people I talk to in cc know, the default world has been encroaching on my gaming time.  That has made it really hard to settle down for a few hours to study Nomad, so I can finally beat him.  He has owned me quite a few times now, but I haven’t made an attempt in a week.

The plan is to head back down with broad bolts, they hit amazingly high against him by the way, and an invent of monk fish to perfect what I am calling the “Run behind the pillar to avoid the 75 hit” trick.  There was once I would have had him if I had not just takes 150 points in damage by standing in the middle of the grenades, so the key to winning the fight will be conserving HP and resources.

Any tricks or tips that you used outside of the ordinary?

GE Warlord Short Trouble Brewing Guide

Hi all. I am writing this for today’s clan event (hey Slayaz), but it should help anyone trying to organize an fun and effective game of Trouble Brewing.  If you aren’t part of Slayaz, hop into slayalot jr’s cc and join us if you want.

To start off with, the primary goal of the game is to have fun, and the secondary is of course maxing out xp and rewards. To do that we will need to take care of a few things first.

When the game starts, go directly to your respective jobs and collect ingredients. The faster you get enough ingredients, the faster rum production can begin. Keep an eye on the inventories, and help out other groups if necessary.

As soon as there is a decent stock built up (5 or 10 minutes into the game), grab as many buckets as you can and fill them with water. The bucket spawn is easy to find and the water comes from the pump. Empty the buckets into the corresponding hopper. This is the simplest job and the easiest to maximize your pieces of eight. Adding ingredients will maximize your pieces of eight, so you don’t need to add over 100 buckets of water, but be sure that your total added ingredients is up there.

Moving on, split into teams for rum ingredients.

Colored flowers/water: Easily one of the most important tasks. This needs 2-3 people on it. Since you can only hold 5 at a time, but can hold more if they are traded to you, everyone needs to pick then trade to a designated person. After you are full, dump the flowers into the kettle, and then use bowls on it for colored water. Take those upstairs to the corresponding hopper on the second floor

Sweetgrubs: Grab some meat from your base and use it on the mounds around the area. If you get a swarm, then run away. Otherwise use meat on it until it collapses, and add your collected grubs to the corresponding hopper on the 2nd floor.

Scrapey Bark: If you want WC xp, then this job is for you. It is easy to collect 100 barks, so you can avoid collection 100 buckets of water if you chose this task. Find a scrapy bark tree, cut it, and then use a knife on the logs. Dump the bark into corresponding upstairs.

Bitternuts: One of my favorite tasks, and the most complicated. You need to get a few bowls of colored water, then head to the center island and catch a monkey, you can have 3 at a time. Dye the monkey with the colored water to mark his as your team mate, and then use the monkey with a bitternut tree. It will jump up and throw down a nut to you. (Unless there is another one already there, in which case it will fight). M’speak ammy can be used here to encourage your monkey.

Tending the boiler: This job brings the whole team together. Keep the fires lit, wood added to them, and the pipes repaired.

Things to bring: An axe (your best), m’speak amulet, Duel ring, boots of lightness, spottier or spotted cape, and penance gloves. None of those items are 100% necessary though, so if you don’t have them don’t worry. I don’t recommend armor or any other equipment. It is heavier and will only make your run not last as long (but feel free to wear anything you want to show off).

Merry Christmas

I hope everyone got what they were looking for this Christmas.  It looks like the folks at Jagex Towers were a bit pre-occupied for this year’s Christmas event.  I know I was not the only person who was frustrated at the poorly planned and executed event.

Sorry for the dearth of posts lately.  I have really been concentrating on slayer.  I needed 75 att and str so getting slayer up at the same time seemed the natural choice.  I really do like cannoning the ice trolls.  If you are creative, you can still find the old Truthscape guide, that with minor updates for today’s Runescape, still make it a profitable trip.

I now have nearly 4000 charms saved up.  It looks like these last 3 levels will push me into the 100s for my combat level, so it might just be a good time to get that summoning up.  I also have prayer on the list of question marks.  The 450k bonus would be a great addition to 75 prayer, but that is 12 levels away.  We will see.

Runescape Forums

I post on a few forums around, and am starting to see some real differences in the type of members there. Lately I have seen a lot of traffic from Sal’s.   Thanks Sals!  I assume it is from some of my comments there in both the forums and on other blogs.  Here are just a few of the recent reactions and my take on them.

Sals:

This showed up in my PM in box yesterday from another member we will call Kit:

“Thanks for that info on Merch Gwyar’s blog. That was really useful and I’m looking forward to putting it to some use on RS.

Thanks again smile”

Thanks for the kind words Kit!

Runescoop:

I have the QP cape, got it at level 62.  I enjoy the challenge of the boss fights at the lowest level I can do them, so of course the new quest requirements made me a bit unhappy.  I have fought and beaten all of the quest bosses to date, solo’d the dagganoth kings, and killed many a KBD.  I have some weapons I can’t use, like the anchor, but I don’t mind.

I posted to that effect on a thread there at Runescoop, and sadly most of the replies were pithy knee jerk reactions.  “Train yer skillz”.  Gee, like I am not doing that already.  I have a keen sense of the obvious here guys.  Give me a break.  I am proud that I did Troll Romance with a combat level of 34.  It was a challenge.  Knowing Jagex, the Blood Runs Deep boss will be equally as easy to put down as the last hell hound I killed with my current stats as it would with 75 Att and Str.

One last thing, Google someone before you insult them. If their PageRank and SEO beats yours, recognize that the public will see and believe what they say first and foremost.

The Grand Exchange:

Thanks for the recent clan chat promotion Glen.  When can I get another rank?

A member of this group takes the cake for asinine behavior though.  I got my first physical threats in that cc last week.  Interestingly, I haven’t seen d darknight1 around since then.  I hope he was banned.  He wants to hurt me for some reason.  Ddarknight1 – You win RS Economist the douche bag of the week award.  Here is the screenie for your entertainment:

d darknight1 is a dousch bag

On a lighter note, I did want to say Congratulations to Gym Bag Boy’s 99 Agility.  I was in the Brimhaven Agility arena this morning at the right time, only to realize that I had the day wrong.  Sorry I missed the big event!

That is about it for today.  Still in a bad mood over the PC melt down this week.  Just got a clue from the hell hounds while proof reading this.  Might just brighten my day.  Good ’scaping.

My PC died yesterday.  Lost a few rough drafts.  Here is the best Christmas song I have seen to date this year to tide you over until our regularly scheduled posting has resumed.

The F2P Mage Pure

Runescape Mage PureThis is a down and dirty, easy to make, and fun to play with pure mage. In this post I will go through the mechanics of making one with the least amount of work. First off, come up with a creative name. Something like s33 ya, fr1ed u, or b00m stik. Might as well be obnoxious, as you aren’t going to make many friends out there in pvp anyway.

Get through the tutorial (use up all of your runes), teleport to Lumby and and attack men with wind strike until you burn through your runes, then claim your runes from the mage trainer. Kill some more men. Bank everything. You will need every penny of seed money here. It shouldn’t take you long to burn through those 25 spells, so when you do, talk to explorer Jack and finish off the beginner tasks of the lumby achievement diary.  That +1 mage bonus really helps when you are wearing junk robes.

head up to the Strongholds of Security and safety. It is dangerous, but it can be done, so run through and collect the rewards. Now with your 20k, outfit yourself with some mage boosting gear. Robes, hat, ammy, and a staff, along with some defensive clothes like leather chaps, a cape, and boots. These stat boosts and bit of def really help in the early stages.

Now teleport to Lumbridge and do Witches potion and imp catcher for a combined 1275 magic xp for about level 13.

Then head off to fist of Guthix, and just start casting. Let your opponents kill you, and get back in there as faast as you can. Before long you will be leveling like mad. Just do the best spell you can and keep doing it.

The first goal is level 35 magic. You want to be casting firebolt here with a combat level 19 or 20, and 35 mage is the minimum level to cast it. Now go out and play a bit. Stay in lower level wildy…wait I still think of pking don in the wildy, and it has been changed for ever. Sick around a safe spot and look for thers near your level.

Remember you have a 10 second window starting the second they enter a safe spot, bind is your friend here. Go after anything in armor and avoid rangers. A good thing here is that there aren’t a lot of other pkers your level who can kill you.

Thanks for reading and remember to come back again nest week for more advanced leveling and techniques.

Runescape Hot keys Revisited

Runescape Hot KeysOver a year ago I did a post on hot keys.  They were introduced with an unannounced update back in April of 2008.  Over the last few months many people saw that post and commented that the keys were wrong.  It looks like at some point they were updated.  After a bit of digging, I found some more information (inclucing a completely new set of hot keys) and organized it here for your viewing pleasure.

Quick Chat Hot keys

  • Enter – Opens quick chat (qc)
  • Backspace – Goes one menu back in in qc
  • Home – Returns to the start of the qc menu
  • Page Up/Page Down – Scrolls though the qc options
  • F9 – Opens a list of quick responses to other qc phrases or questions
  • F10 – Opens a context sensative menu
  • F11 – Repeats your last qc phrase
  • Escape – Closes qc
  • Pressing enter after the / (backslash) opens qc for your clan chat

Other Hot keys

  • ctrl – Holding this key while clicking a destination will make your toon run to that location.
  • F1 – Displays your inventory
  • F2 – Displays your equipped items
  • F3 – Brings up the prayer menu
  • F4 – Shows the spell list
  • F5 – Gives your combat options

Those context sensitive options for qc depend on the area and are only available in certain areas, and F11 does not repeat instantly.  I thought for a second it might be a way to spam qc, but it isn’t.  In fact, repeating myself 4 times got me a visit to Evil Bob’s jail.  I also learned that F11 is the shortcut for Chrome to go full screen mode, so depending in where the cursor is, you could either repeat yourself or send the game to full screen mode.

Do you use the hot keys?  Did you know about them?  Let me know.  Leave a comment.

The Top 10 Magic Rings of Runescape

This post is based on one of my most popular posts a while back, but this time I will focus on magic, as opposed to rings in general.  Also, a lot has changed since then.  Some of the rings are the same, and there are also some new additions.  Give them a glance and let me know if you think that I missed any.

10. Jennica’s Ring – This ring provides no stat bonus, but it does give you access to the magic portals in wildy and doubles the chances of getting something good from a rev drop.

Bonus: None (but go talk to the strange old man near the entrance to barrows with it on)

9.  Explorer’s ring – The reward for completing the Lumbridge Achievement Diaries, this ring gives free teleports to the cabbage patch.  It is the only ring that offers a stat bonus for free players.

Bonus:  +1 Magic att, +1 Prayer

8.  Beacon Ring – This ring is from the What Lies Below quest, and is freely replaceable from Zaff in his Varrok Staff shop.  With a decent bonus and a low replacement cost this one makes it on the list.

Bonus:  +2 Magic att, +1 Magic Def

7.  Lunar Ring – This is the cheap man’s Seer ring.  With a replacement cost of only 2,000 gp , it is not only cheap, but also very expendable.

Bonus: +2 Magic Att, +2 Magic Def.

6.  Ruby Ring (i) – Upgraded from a normal ruby ring, this enhanced version offers an okay bonus, but if you are going to get one go with the diamond or better.

Bonus: +3 Magic Att, +3-4 other Att stats

5.  Diamond Ring (i) – This upgraded version of the diamond ring is a much better use than making it into a ring of life.  Almost as good as the seers ring at 1/10 the cost.

Bonus +4 Magic Att, +4-5 other Att stats

4.  Seers Ring – My previous #1 ring, is now relegated to third place.  It is still a nice bonus, but at a substantial cost.

Bonus: +4 Magic Att, +4 Magic Def

3. Dragonstone ring (i) – After enhancement at Mobilizing Armies, this ring is a great alternative to my previous #1 (now #4) ring.  Well worth playing the mini game for.

Bonus: +5 Magic Att, +5 magic Def, +5 to the other Att and Def stats

2.  Onyx Ring (i) – This is a normal onyx ring after upgrading from the Mobilizing Armies mini game.  It offers some great all around stats as well as a significant magic bonus.

Bonus: +6 Magic Att, +6 Magic Def, +6 to the other Att and Def stats

1.  Seers Ring (i) - You regulars know my penchant for all things magic related, so this one shouldn’t come as a surprise.  Down from it’s price in the millions, this ring is a must for the fighting mage.

Bonus:  +8 Magic Att, +8 Magic Def

Short Runescape Rant

What is with this damn mini map glitch?!  I know a few others are experiencing it as well.  Do you have blacked out areas of your mini map?  It is driving me nuts!  I can’t navigate the slayer cave, I can’t easily navigate to my farming patches, I can’t get to the GE shortcut from Edge.

I filed a bug report from the Runescape home page, but have yet to hear anything.  Yo Jagex!  The mini map is broken!

PS To:  adramelech9 – Only a jackass brings a cat to a busy slayer area.  I could understand if you needed to raise a kitten, but a grown cat?  Seriously though.  If you must bring one then don’t melee right next to people, especially a guy who is ranging from a safe spot.  It is just common sense.

Slayer noob

Leave your cat at home!
