The Prayer Beast – Runescape Pures Part One

I have held this idea on the back burner for a long time now.  I blogged the idea last year in a foot note and finally got around to putting a few types together.  I have a few more types on my mind, and will try to post 2-3 a month, usually on Fridays.  Enjoy.

The Prayer Beast

Runescape’s Paladin?

I based this character type on a good friend of mine, I will call him Werewolf.  For a long time he ruled his small part of the wild as a Prayer Beast.  Dressed in his monk robes and carrying his granite maul, he was lethal.  This post will focus on that version of the Prayer Beast.

Required Skills

  • Str: 50
  • Att: 50
  • Def: 0
  • Prayer: 31

Those are the minimums you will need to be a serious threat in PvP fighting.  Some people may contest the prayer level.  Protect item is necessary at level 25, but why 31?  Ultimate strength.  Those few higher HP you knock off could mean the difference between a spawn in Lumby or a nice pay off for a hard day’s work.

Outfit:

  1. Ram Skull Helmet (Free after Rag and Bone Quest) > Iron Full
  2. Cape (any color) – 600gp
  3. Holy Symbol (137gp), Amulet of Strength
  4. Granite Maul – 130k
  5. Explorer’s Ring – Free after Lumby Achievement Diaries
  6. Monk Robe Top – Free from the Prayer Guild (535gp from GE)
  7. Anti-Dragon shield – Free from the king of Lumby (289gp from the GE)
  8. Monk Robe Bottom – Free from the Prayer Guild (485 from the GE)
  9. Safety Gloves – Stronghold of Player Safety
  10. Fighting Boots – Free from the Stronghold of Security

Total outfit cost:

About 150k.  You really should purchase extras of the things you can.  If you want to save some cash, then start Dragon Slayer, get your anti-dragon shield, drop it, get another, and repeat.  The same goes for monk robes, just wait until they spawn.

Substitutions:

You can swap out the Ram Skull helm for an iron full if you want.  They are cheap and easy to make, but why the Ram Skull?  It is an easy quest, and you get prayer xp from it.  Two things that are good for a Prayer Beast.

Carry a rune scimmy as well.  This will hit higher than the Granite Maul, as well as being twice as fast, then pull out the maul and use the Quick Smash spec to finish off your opponent.

Switch out the ammy for a Strength Amulet.  Your main ‘strength’ is going to be strength, so adding every possible bonus you can is the key to getting a quick kill.

Inventory:

A decent PK food and  Zammy Brews.  At the cost of <250 per dose, they offer a str and att bonus equivalent to Super Att and Str at 1/10 the price, and prayer bonus.  They do have an HP and def penalty, but at 1 def, it doesn’t matter anyway so just gobble a fish to heal up after a shot and you are good to go.  You can also substitute a slot of food for a super def mix.  They heal well (12hp over 2 doses) at the same time as giving a bonus to your def, and they are cheap at 300 a shot.

Turbo Tip:

There isn’t a large supply of Zammy Brews or Super Def Mixes for sale on the GE.  They cost a lot to make, and sell for nothing, but they are great herblore XP.  Just ask in the GE for 85 herblore help, and most high levels will be happy to assist.
